Unlike countries with four distinct seasons (spring, summer, autumn, winter), Sri Lanka's climate is tropical and primarily dictated by two monsoon seasons. The Yala monsoon brings rain to the southwest (Colombo, Galle) from May to September. The Maha monsoon affects the northeast (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay) from October to January. This means there is always a dry, sunny region to visit on the island at any time of year, making it a year-round destination.
