About this tour

This private day tour brings together two of Sri Lanka’s best experiences: the ancient Sigiriya Rock Fortress and a wildlife safari near the Cultural Triangle. You will climb the famous rock, explore its landscaped gardens, enjoy time in the countryside, and finish with a safari in Minneriya, Kaudulla, or Hurulu Eco Park.

The tour normally takes about 10 to 12 hours when starting from Sigiriya or Dambulla. Pickup from Kandy, Colombo, Negombo, or Bandaranaike International Airport requires a much earlier departure and a route-specific confirmation.

Sigiriya Rock Fortress

Sigiriya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site built around a rock rising about 200 metres above the surrounding landscape. King Kashyapa developed the royal citadel during the fifth century. The site later returned to monastic use.

The climb has approximately 1,200 steps. Along the route, you can see the ancient frescoes, Mirror Wall, Lion Paw terrace, palace ruins, and wide views across forests, lakes, and villages. Your guide will explain the site in simple English and allow time for rest stops.

Ancient gardens

Before and during the climb, explore Sigiriya’s Water Gardens and Boulder Gardens. Their pools, fountains, channels, caves, and landscaped paths show the advanced planning and water engineering used at the ancient city.

Village experience

After lunch, take a gentle walk through a nearby rural area. Learn about local farming and daily village life without turning the visit into a staged performance. The exact route depends on weather, time, and local conditions.

Afternoon wildlife safari

The safari park is selected according to park access, road conditions, and recent wildlife movement. Possible locations include Minneriya National Park, Kaudulla National Park, and Hurulu Eco Park.

Wild elephants, deer, buffalo, monkeys, crocodiles, and many bird species live in this region. All animals are wild, so sightings and herd sizes cannot be guaranteed. The safari follows park rules, keeps a respectful distance, and does not permit feeding or disturbing wildlife.
